
Esports is booming on a worldwide scale. The popularity of games and the amount of growth in audiences around the world are reaching new limits. New and old competitive games are being release and played by millions. The rate of Esports is growing faster than ever and the more money put into more video games the better developers can put back to build old and create newer games. The best indicator on the most watched Esports games are based on the viewership. But, which is the most popular Esports game and exposure? Here’s my list of top five Esports games.
1.League of Legends

First released in 2009, League of Legends in a multi-player battle arena game. League generated the second highest amount of revenue among free to play games behind Fortnite. According to the LoadOut, it generated $100 million more in 2019 than last year. The amount money generated from League of Legends is at $1.6 billion.
2. Overwatch

Overwatch is a team-based shooter game, which stars a diverse cast of characters to choose from on a 6v6 match. The game revolves around a ton of strategy through the different characters and powers they each hold. Since 2016, Overwatch has been increasing number of players at a fast rate. SuperData estimated it has brought in $565 million through just pc’s making it the highest paid game for personal computers.
3. Dota2

Dota 2 is a multi-player game, which two teams of five compete to destroy the other teams structure known as a “ancient” while defending your own. It has created much noise in the Esports game world as it’s a free to play game. On the international stage it has generated more than $2 million. As it continues to grow, it is one of the most active games to throw tournaments all across the globe.
4. Fortnite

Originally released in 2017 as a third person player survival game has been one of the most popular games. Fortnite battle royale mode, where 100 players fight to the death to be the last man or woman standing has been one or if not the most popular modes played in Esports. According to Nielsen in 2018, Fortnite generated $2.4 billion, making it the top grossing free to play game in the world.
5. Call of Duty

Call of Duty (COD) has made quite a bit of money in the past few years. The game has more modes than some other games. COD has created more of its money made by bringing players together over more platforms. According to Metro, COD has made a little over $1 billion, with over 500 million multi-players logged on.
In 2020, these top five games can transition to any position on any list. Each game is different and great in their own way. Additionally, the amount of Esport games out there has allowed to further cement Esports as a whole. The industry is a billion-dollar industry that will not stop growing any time soon.
